Bridget was born in 1839 in Drumgriffin, Galway, to Michael Higgins and Mary Hanly. She was baptised on 15 September 1839 in Annaghadown parish, Galway, diocese of Tuam.)Ref: Church Baptism Record; Sponsors: Patrick Gordon and Mary Kennedy).

Family stories recall Bridget having two brothers - Timothy and Patrick. We found a record of Timothy in New Great Britain shipping list and his burial record at Invercargill cemetery but no record of Patrick.

She married Peter Forde on 16 November 1862 • Parish of Annaghdown, Galway, Ireland (Reference: Church Marriage Record; Witnesses: Sabina Forde and Michael Hargadon).

On 2 May 1863, she left Galway, Ireland via London, Middlesex, England, sailing with her brother , Timothy, and husband, Peter,  on the ship,  "New Great Brtitian". she arrived at the port of Bluff, Southland, New Zealand on 10 August 1863.

Peter and Bridget had 7 children, Mary Ellen, Margaret Theresa,  Martin, Michael, Bridget,Sabina, and my grandfather, Peter.

She died on the 24 February 1922, Invercargill,Southland, New Zealand. She was 83 years. She  was buried in Eastern cemetery, Invercargill on 26 February 1922 in Plot 17, Block 6. her burial record states her LAST ADDRESS: RICHMOND GROVE; death registration no: 1922/2474.
