Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in USA

Ellen Faherty was one of 12 children born to Anne Scanlon and John Faherty of DerryLoughnan, Spiddal, Galway. She immigrated to USA from Galway around 1892. She reportedly lied about her age as she was just 14. Initially she was to go to Scranton Pennsylvania where her mother Anne Scanlon had family. Instead she arrived in New York and went on to Portland Maine where she remained the rest of her life. She shared a cabin on the "Umbria" with a Mary Faherty, the name of one of her sisters but not clear if this was her as she was thought to have come earlier. Her brothers Michael, John and Patrick and her sisters Mary A, Anne and Nora joined her before or after altho Anne lived in Massachusetts.

She married Mark Coyne in Portland and had a daughter Mary Ellen Coyne McNeil. Mark died young leaving her with an infant. A few years later she married Frank O'Toole, son of Coleman and Kate Curran O'Toole of Knock South, Galway. He was a First cousin of Ellen's sister Mary A husband Matthew O'Toole. Frank had lost his first wife Nora Flaherty (no relation)in a tragic kitchen fire. He had a son Coleman F O'Toole. Their son together, John O'Toole is my father.
