The marriage record for my great grandfather John Campbell, lists his parents as John Campbell and  Mary Dalton.  The only geographical reference so far is Ireland. The birthdate for John Campbell, the father is  estimated based on the  birth of his son . Naming patterns suggest that John Jr was not the first born but?  John Jr named His first son Joseph  and his second son John  I have no other family clues .

Their son John Campbell was  born   in 1852 married in 1877 and died  in 1889 at the age of 36/37 leaving a wife and 5 children 2 boys  and 3 girls.  Her parents were married in Co Cork and emigrated together as a family. They all  resided near one  another in Brookline,  Mass just on the edge of Boston.

I am seeking  John Campbel senior and Mary Dalton  who might have been born between 1820and 1830.    I have no info as to their home parish, or even if they emigrated  or not.  It is also  possible that this John had a different first name but went by his second name or his saint's name. The other relatives above were RC so I am  guessing they were too. Can anyone help ?

  • Since entering the first  vague post above when I first joined Ireland XO, Reaching Out  I have searched in vain.  Still looking for John Campbell who married Mary Dalton and had at least one son  John  who was born ca 1852, emigrated to  Boston  before 1877, when he married  Annie Ahearn(AAhern)  whose family was from Cork.  This John the younger  worked as a  laborer   until his death from pthisis a form of TB, in 1889,at oonly 37, leaving Annie with 5 children,    Boston was teeming with   Irishmen and women who came to America for a better life.  They didn't always have the best of things and they died leaaving little to no footprint  but..they left children.  This John the younger has hundreds of descendants , people who have achieved  all he could have dreamed of and more.  We know what became of him an d his descendants, but we have no info on his  arrival, his family  or his origins. The only record of his past is the notice in his 1877 marriage registratioon of his parents, John Campbell and Mary Dalton.   In15 years of searching I have found only one Irish clue that seems to have all the right names, in an 1851 pension request noting that JohnC. and Mary D, had once resided with his father Frank C.,  in Cavan Co,  There is no clue as to whther or not my g-grandfather was their son of their grandon  .No link to say there is any relation at all.  While Campbell isn't the most numerous surname in Ireland, there arre John Campbells apalenty in  Ireland and the US..

If anyone knows of a John Campbell who married a Mary Dalton  sometime  between  ca 1840 and  1852,  from anywhere in Ireland, PLEASE  let me know.
