Migrated to/Born in USA

Patrick Monahan was a Roman Catholic.  His parents were John Monahan and Catherine Karr (Carr). He emigrated in about 1851 to the USA with his wife (Mary Quirk) and infant daughter Bridget. They settled in Lee, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. For a few years, he lived in Arcola, Illinois where his wife had relatives, to work on the railroad. Patrick and Mary raised five children (Bridget, Kate, Maria, Thomas, and Anna) in Lee. His sister Mary Monahan also emigrated and settled in Lee where she married Thomas Daley and raised her family there.

According to Patrick's grandson (my great-uncle), Patrick came from a large family. He was known for his physical strength and competed in numerous wrestling matches in Lee. My uncle also mentioned that one of Patrick's brothers disappeared and was presumed to have been shanghaied.

Mary Quirk's father is recorded on documents as John Quirk. I have found no record of her mother. My uncle said that she had been an "orphan".

I discovered a marriage record dated 19 Feb 1846 in Killeenadeema for Patrick Monahan and Mary Quirke that seems very possible. Their daughter Bridget was born in 1849 in Ireland. I have also found a passenger list record on 9 Jul1851 of a ship from Galway to New York (Caroline) that appears to be my 2nd great grandfather Patrick though the information is somewhat misleading. I have been able to document his life in Lee, Massachusetts. However, I cannot find and verify his origin in Ireland.  I would appreciate any assistance offered.  My husband and I plan a trip to Ireland in 2025 and would like to visit the area and meet any cousins who may live there.
