A few nights since, twelve houses, on the lands of Tartan, parish of Kilcola, in this barony, were forcibly entered by an armed party, supposed to be about 23 in number, who searched, in the name of Captain Rock, the several places for arms and money.
On said night, four houses were entered, it is supposed, by said party, on the lands of Rathallen, (between Ballynameen and Croghan)—ln each instance, a sum not less than 6d. nor more than 5s. was demanded: and in such cases where money could not be procured, the inmates were sworn to deposit it for them in a place specified to them.
We understand that large parties of armed men present themselves almost every night, in the half parish of Coolavin; and that they visit, occasionally, such houses in that district, as they suppose possess either fire-arms or money.
