Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in Australia

William and his wife Ellen (nee Lynch) and his sister Anne (b1834) departed from Liverpool on 15 November 1859 on the sailing ship "Fitz James".  They arrived in Sydney on 20 February 1860.  William is recorded on the Passenger list as age 24 a Labourer from Tipperary and able to read and write.  Ellen is shown as age 21 "wife" from Limerick and able to read and write. A male child born on the day of arrival is recorded on the Passenger list.

Anne (her christian name is variously shown as Ann and Hannah) Sampson is shown as age 26.  Her occupation is "House Maid".  She is described as from Tipperary and can read.

The Sampsons appear to have moved to Melbourne and from there migrated to New Zealand in 1861-63.  Further research is being undertaken.

Descendants of William & Ellen Sampson, and Anne who married Charles Southam reside in New Zealand.

Little is known of Anne and William's parents other than their father was John Sampson a Wheelwright of Limerick but their mother\'s name is unknown.
