Bryan Crowley was born about 1782 in Paul Street, Cork City. His father was William Crowley, a baker. Bryan was pressed into the Royal Navy in 1807, but continued serving until 1843. His home port was Devonport.
He married (1) Mary Sullivan on 14 Sep 1819 in Devonport. Mary died of cholera in 1849. Bryan married (2) Phyllis Odger or Moon on 02 Sep 1851 in Devonport.
Bryan died in Millbrook Cornwall, on 02 Mar 1855.

Bryan's son Edward William Crowley came to Melbourne in 1852, while Bryan's other descendants (families Budge and Bunster) remained in the UK.
