John McDevitt of Donegal according to census record and notice of his death died on May 26, 1876 in Saint John new Brunswick.   He was married to Isabella McGee of Derry Dec 2, 1847 in Philadelphia.

On the “theshipslist.com” site, I found a John McDevitt who arrived in Saint John from Donegal aboard the ship “William” in 1834.  The ship sailed from Londonderry on April 2, 1834 and arrived on May 10/13, 1834.   According to the ship’s manifest, he was 14 years of age.   There were other McDevitts on the ship, but I have never been able to connect that group to my John McDevitt.

Comments

  • That is very interesting. My direct ancestor is Helen or Elenor McDevitt from County Donegal. She married there Bernard Toy. After a couple of years she settled with his husband and her first three children to Johnstone, Renfrewshire. Later to Glasgow, she came back to a part oft family in Johnstone and died in 1960. Her father -don't know his forename -married a Havelin in Co. Donegal. Maybe it helps? If anyone has information to my family please answer. Xanks so much.
